This digital painting marked my comeback in 2018 after two years of hiatus from drawing. It certainly doesn’t feel that long though. This is a scene from the animated short film that I’m working on. I thought it would be fun to make it into a still and paint it.
This was done entirely in Adobe Photoshop while I was still not fully comfortable painting in it. This took me several days of hour-long sessions. The watercolor brushes really helped me flesh it out though. The part I enjoyed the most was drawing the bubbles. While not exactly as I imagined, it came pretty close and I’m satisfied with the finished painting. I also enjoyed post processing — enhancing the colors for the finishing touch.
Check out part of my process below! I’m still developing my style at this point if you haven’t noticed. My previous illustration, Brink, was my foray into more realistic digital painting but it does not quite mesh with my manga-style line art. If I had to settle on one style, it would be this.
